About Me

The work going on in my lab covers a whole spectrum of topics from basic microbiology to nanotechnology. There is a well establishment protocol in the lab for production of Sophorolipid and various derivatives have been successfully synthesized based on different fatty acid precursor molecules. Oleic acid Sophorolipid has been the most worked upon molecule in the lab and it has shown to possess many interesting properties. Metastasis arresting and cancer cell differentiation inducing capability of oleic acid sophorolipid (Ref) and its ability to form solid stable fluorescent meso-structures upon laser irradiation (ref) has recently been reported from my laboratory. Also there is work going on in the field of enzymology with special attention on Ntn hydrolase family of enzymes. There has been a keen focus on searching for Novel sources of the enzyme penicillin G acylase for its eventual application in resolution of racemic mixtures (Chiral resolution). Lastly there is also intense efforts towards the search for novel Quorum quenching enzymes and biomolecules that can successfully inhibit Quorum Sensing, the phenomenon of bacterial communication, and serve as potential future candidates for development of antibacterial therapeutics. In the light of such efforts my lab has been the first to report the ability of xylitol to act as a quorum sensing antagonist in gram negative marker strain Chromobacterium violaceum CV026.
