About Me

We are engaged in isolation and characterization microbes from various niches like extreme environments, soil, and gut contents. Further we do catalog them at molecular level and then develop for Industrial level applications using bioprospecting.

Our long term goal is to tap India's rich microbial heritage and translate them further into Industrial microbiology.

I am also heading National Collection of Industrial Micro-organisms (NCIM). NCIM is a national facility dedicated to isolation, preservation, distribution of authentic cultures which are of industrial important. Established in 1951, it is a part of the division of Biochemical Sciences in the NCL. Starting with just 400 cultures, the NCIM holds 3700 cultures today.Only nonpathogenic cultures are maintained in the collection. NCIM is one of the oldest culture collections in India and is a member of World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC).

NCIM also provide microbial identification services and engaged in collaborations with academia and industries.
