a.      First Rank in the entire Maharashtra state of India in the Secondary School Certificate examination (1969).

b.      First Rank in Poona University, India in the Pre-Professional (1971) and M.Sc.(1975) Examinations. 

c.      Winner of the “Young Scientist Medal” of the Indian National Science Academy for Physics for 1985.

d.      Winner of the “Dr. N. S. Sathya Murthy” award of the Indian Physics Association and the Department of  Atomic Energy for            Experimental Physics, 1987.  

e.      Winner of the “MRSI Medal” of the Materials Research Society of India, 1990.

f.       Winner of the National award for superconductivity research – Award instituted by the Materials Research Society of India             and the International conference (MRSI-ICSC) on Superconductivity, Bangalore, India, 1992.

g.      Winner of the B. M. Birla prize instituted by the Birla Science foundation, India, for outstanding research in Physics, 1992.

h.      Winner of the “Sir C. V. Raman Prize” of the Hari Om Trust and the University Grants Commission, India, for Experimental                Research, 1994. 

i.       Elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences (FASc), 1992, Elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences,                         Allahabad (FNASc), 2010, Elected Fellow of the Maharashtra (state) Academy of Sciences, 1990.

r.      Selected as Ramanujan National Fellow of DST, Govt. of India, 2006-2011.

s.      Founder member : Materials Research Society of India and the Laser Society of India.

t.      NCL Scientist of the Year 2010, IBM-IUSSTF Fellow in Nanotechnology 2011.
