Welcome to Chowdhury Lab

Dr. Chiranjit Chowdhury obtained his Ph. D. in Biotechnology from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2009. In 2010, he joined at CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology Hyderabad as a DST Research Associate. His study at CCMB-Hyderabad was focused on characterizing outer membrane vesicles of a plant pathogen, Pseudomonas syringae pv tomato and decipher their roles in transmitting virulence and pathogenicity in tomato plant. He was also involved in characterizing protein expression level in Antarctic Pseudomonas at different temperatures to show how these bacteria acclimatize and adopt upon temperature variations. In 2011, he moved to University of Notre Dame Indiana, USA as a postdoctoral research associate and was engaged in understanding de novo recycling of bacterial cell-wall biosynthesis. From 2012-2017 he served as postdoctoral research associate at Iowa State University, Iowa USA. His study at Iowa State was to dissect the fundamentals of microcompartments assembly, encapsulation and permeability property and engineer them for prospective synthetic biology applications. His research was greatly acclaimed in several international conferences like Analytical genetics meeting held in Alta, UT in 2013, in Protein Society meeting held in San Diego, CA in 2014 and in ASM Microbe 2017 held in New Orleans LA. In 2017, he was promoted to Assistant Scientist III of Iowa State University and was engaged in understanding pathogenesis and gut microbiome physiology, which provide insights into development of new methods for pathogen control. In August 2018, he returned India with prestigious Ramanujan Fellowship award and joined Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine and Stem Cell Research as an Associate Professor. Currently, he is serving as a Senior Scientist at Division of Biochemical Sciences, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune.
