BLV Prasad was born in Tangutur village (Prakasam District) in Andhra Pradesh. He received his early education at Vijayawada (Sisu Vidya Mandir, Satavahana College and SRR and CVR Govt. college) a city on the banks of river Krishna. Afterwards he joined Hyderabad Central University for M.Sc. (Chemistry) and obtained Ph.D. from the same university in 1997 working on the molecule based magnetic materials and theoretical understanding of spin coupling in conjugated and non-conjugated organic radicals under the supervision of Prof. T. P. Radhakrishnan. He started working in the area of nanomaterials during the two post-doctoral stints; one at Tokyo Institute of Technology (2 years JSPS fellowship and 1 year Research Associateship) and second at Kansas State University (2.5 years -NASA sponsored project). While the TITECH work was on nanographite and its intercalation compounds, his work in KSU was on metal based nanoparticles especially their size and shape control.

Currently at NCL his group is working on novel methods to prepare metal nanoparticles, nanoparticle and molecular self-assemblies and their applications. His group is also interested in the areas of bio-nano conjugates and their applications and surface funcationalization of nanoparticles.

C. N. R. Rao Prize Lecture in Advanced Materials by MRSI 2023.

Appointed as the DIrector of the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bangalore 2021.

C. N. R. Rao National Prize for chemical research by the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) at Kolkata 2019.

Selected for MRSI-ICSC Materials Science Annual Prize for 2020.

Elected as Fellow of the Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences, 2017.
