My research program will aim to develop new strategies and concepts for direct and diverse functionalization of naturally abundant and functionally unmodified materials to valuable chiral products.
 
One of the targets will be the direct asymmetric α-functionalization of amines with electrophiles, complimentary to well-known nucleophiles and radical coupling partners to maximize diversity.
 
Another approach is to develop general chiral counterion catalysis for stereocontrol in a variety of radical ion as well as conventional ionic reactions. Small molecule asymmetric catalyst development along this line will lead us to a variety of catalytic asymmetric reactions with substrate classes lacking coordinating functional groups.
