Information at a Glance

CSIR-NCL at a Glance

  • Approximately 200 scientific staff with PhD.
  • Interdisciplinary research centre with interest in polymer science, organic chemistry, catalysis, physical and structural chemistry, materials chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemical sciences and process development.
  • Excellent infrastructure for measurement science and chemical information.
  • About 500 graduate students pursuing research towards doctoral degree; a strong and young talent pool which renews every few years.
  • About 250 Project Staff working on various projects
  • CSIR-NCL publishes the large number of papers in chemical sciences (~ 400), files the large number of patents, both in India and abroad and produces the largest number of PhDs in Chemical Sciences in India.

The Research Council provides the direction and vision and helps it to design a roadmap to achieve it.
The Management Council administers and manages the affairs and environs of the laboratory.
It has a successful record of research partnership with industry and many technologies transferred to industries are commercialised.

CSIR-NCL is participating in the activities of Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR, http://acsir.res.in) that has been established by an Act of Parliament as an ‘Institution of National Importance’ with a view to maximize the number of qualified researchers and professionals of impeccable quality in the domain of science & engineering; and to equip them with the skills to innovate and conduct seamless interdisciplinary research. It focuses on imparting instruction in such areas that are not routinely taught in regular academic universities in India. With Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) constituted, NCL students will get Ph D degree from AcSIR.
